We were unlucky in getting very tough draws in the first rounds of the County Cups at all four age groups, so did not progress in them.The Year 9 and 10 teams both had good wins against Boston Grammar School. Congratulations to Charlie Hodgson for the school’s top score of the season (74) and Ben McCarrick for the best bowling performance of the season (6 for 11 runs).The Year 9 cricket tour to Derbyshire in June was a success. The boys played in three very close games – losing by 10 runs to Woodlands school, beating Queen Elizabeth’s of Ashbourne by 3 runs and losing by 4 wickets to Thomas Alleyne School, Uttoxeter.Particularly pleasing performances were made by Josh Hunter (batting and wicket keeping), Michael White and Stephen Price (bowling).The whole year 9 squad were a credit to the school and contacts have been established for another tour in 2011 for current Year 8s. The students were dropped off in 6 different groups in Bakewell and they walked to a campsite near Monyash. The camped overnight and then walked back to Bakewell using different routes.The weather was hot and sunny but the students coped well and enjoyed the expedition. The concert features the Junior Orchestra, Junior Choir, Woodwind ensemble, string ensemble and soloists from year 8. System Webmaster http://qegs.php5.truth.posiweb.net/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=407&Itemid=21 The whole of Y10 were off timetable for two days for the annual Enterprise in Action conference organised through Young Enterprise.During the course of the two days the students, working in teams of six, set up a company which has to research a market, produce a prototype product and then market it to their target consumer group. The companies are assisted by business advisors and the event is designed to give students a taste of entrepreneurship. All the companies are in competition with each other and they have to present their product to a panel of judges. The overall winner this year was Momentum with their ‘all in one kitty care’ product! Amy is well known for her baking abilities so the queue of staff and pupils waiting to buy a piece of chocolate cake or a lemon meringue muffin was not surprising. Supported by friends Caitlin Costello, Kirsty Edge, Jess Emmerson , Sasha Grau, Jas Hutchinson-Bazeley, Martina Short and Jenn Watts, £141 was raised, enough to:• Pay for a Macmillan nurse for an hour• Buy a liquidiser for someone who can’t eat solid food as a result of their cancer treatment• Help run a typical, large Macmillan Information and Support Centre for an hour.
