Admissions Authority
Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School is an 11-18 selective Foundation school for which the Governing Body is the Admissions Authority, responsible for both Admissions and administering Appeals. The Governing Body determines all decisions about admissions, including this policy. All allocations of places are determined by a committee of the Governing Body with delegated powers.

Entry to Year 7
Testing takes place in early September and places will be allocated on or after March 1st 2010 according to the Coordinated Admissions Scheme for the county.
The agreed admission number for entry in September 2010 is 120 (four form entry).

11+ testing For those parents wishing to obtain information about 11+ testing there is a newly available website for the Lincolnshire Consortium of Grammar Schools  http://www.grammarschools.lincs.sch.uk

How to apply for a place in Year 7
There is a legal requirement for admissions authorities to comply with the agreed coordinated admissions scheme, which is administered by Lincolnshire County Council, as the local Education Authority. Under the coordinated arrangements, all applications to Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School in Horncastle must be submitted by parents or carers on their home Local Authority's Common Application Form (CAF). Brief details of the agreed timetable are available for download below:

School Admissions Policy

The LEA will provide a booklet "Guide to Secondary School Transfer – 2009/2010" and a Common Application Form for all children resident in Lincolnshire in September 2009.

The Common Application Form must be completed and returned to the LEA by the date given. The LEA will then send the information from the form to the school where the Governing Body will consider all the applications in accordance with the school's published admissions criteria.

Please note that all applications for a place at Queen Elizabeth's must also complete 11 plus testing if they are to be considered. Qualification in the schools 11 plus testing arrangements, however, does not, in itself, guarantee your child a place in the school. Also, sitting the tests does not constitute an application.

Visits
Parents of prospective pupils are welcome to visit the school by prior arrangement with the Headteacher. The main Open Evening is on Wednesday 23rd September from 6:30 to 8:30pm. Details are sent out to feeder primary schools and are widely advertised in the press.

QEGS at 11
There is a lot to look forward to as you start secondary school – ‘hot’ lunches, making new friends, different teachers, being more independent.

There is a lot to worry about too! ‘Will I make new friends?’ ‘How do I find my way around such a big school?’ ‘Will the teachers be strict?’ These are just a few of the many questions you will probably want to ask the Head of Year 7 when she visits you in your primary school in early June.

To help alleviate still further the concerns you may have about starting your new school, you will spend a day with us in July. You will meet your new form tutor and form and sample a few of the many lessons you’ll enjoy in September. There will be a chance, too, to meet your nominated 6th form buddy, who will be there to offer friendly help and support, particularly in the first few weeks as you find your feet.

The highlight of the first term has to be Year 7 Camp! A chance to make friends and to get to know your year group as well as the senior students and staff who make it all possible.
